Terms & Properties

Preferred Name: Hydrated Sodium Calcium Aluminosilicate

Definition: A naturally occurring, highly mineralized phyllosilicate clay used as a nutritional supplement with mycotoxin binding and protective activities. Upon ingestion prior to each meal, hydrated sodium calcium aluminosilicate is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract but rather binds certain food contaminants, including aflatoxin (AF) and fumonisin B1 (FB1), thereby reducing the bioavailability of these substances. Dietary exposure of AF and FB1 has been associated with an increased risk of certain cancers.
